| Course Presentation

The Higher Professional Technical Course in Physical Exercise is based on higher technical training, with a solid scientific and technical base, which aims to acquire skills and knowledge that allow you to assume, in an autonomous way, the planning, design, guidance and conduct of all programs and physical condition (fitness) sports activities developed in the sports facilities that provide services, as well as participating in the evaluation and prescription of these activities, in controlling the quality of the services provided and in the implementation of measures leading to their improvement, customer loyalty and promotion adherence to sports and the acquisition of a healthy lifestyle. This course works in partnership with Escola Profissional António Lago Cerqueira (EPALC), thus providing the training of Higher Professional Technicians in Physical Exercise in the municipality of Amarante.

| Entry Conditions

Fulfill one of the following conditions:

  • Hold a secondary education course (with or without entrance exams) or a legally equivalent qualification;

  • Have passed the tests for those over 23 years of age;

  • Hold a CET or a higher education degree, with a view to professional requalification.

| Learning Objectives

  • Monitor the planning, advice and prescription of the most appropriate physical and sporting activities according to the practitioner's global assessment.

  • Coordinate, organize and technically conduct, within the scope of the operation of sports facilities, associations, clubs or other public or private institutions, physical and sporting activities in the area of maintaining the physical, mental, emotional and social condition developed there.

  • Evaluate the quality of services provided, as well as propose or implement measures aimed at improving this quality.

  • Collaborate in the fight against doping in sport.

  • Design and coordinate the integrated assessment of the practitioner's physical condition.

  • Conduct and guide previously established sports activity programs.

  • Promote the acquisition of healthy lifestyles associated with physical exercise through the implementation and coordination of physical activity and sports programs in different contexts.

  • Coordinate the implementation of practitioner membership and loyalty programs.

  • Manage and supervise the implementation of maintenance plans and organization of space and equipment, in sports facilities that provide services in the area of physical condition maintenance, in associations, clubs or other public or private institutions.

  • Collaborate in evaluating the quality of services provided, propose and implement measures aimed at improving this quality, in order to maintain customer loyalty, governed by the code of ethics.

  • Manage, coordinate and implement prevention and safety measures inherent to physical and sporting activities carried out by different populations in different contexts.

  • Design and monitor events related to outdoor fitness activities in associations, clubs, sports training schools, local authorities, or other public and private institutions.

Coordination : Prof. Dr. Pedro Forte

Pedro Forte has a degree in Sports, a Masters in Exercise and Health and a PhD in Sports Sciences. Throughout his professional activity he was an instructor of physical and sports activities and a basketball and football coach. He is a researcher at the Research Center for Sport, Health and Human Development and his areas of interest are biomechanics related to health and sports performance in individual and team sports. He is a member of the team of analysts for Paralympic athlete Mário Trindade (European champion and 4th in the world rankings in his category). At a scientific level, they have published chapters and books, articles and works presented at conferences and events and collaborate with several national and international researchers. He is an editor and reviewer in national and international journals from the most prestigious publishers such as Frontiers, MDPI, Elsevier, Springer Nature and Taylor and Francis. He is Coordinator and teacher at the Sports Department at ISCE Douro.
