GAEA – ISCE Douro Student-Athlete Support Office promotes, in accordance with the legal and regulatory framework, support for ISCE Douro Student-Athletes who wish to apply for the respective Student-Athlete Status, to whom certain benefits are granted. .
The number of athletes who, throughout their professional careers, enter higher education study cycles has increased, aiming for greater personal and/or professional development during and after their sporting careers, whether as practitioners or future senior technical staff. GAEA intends to provide, in applicable cases, assistance in the processes of requesting said status, analysis and evaluation of possible candidates and monitoring of students who enjoy the status.
GAEA’s objectives are:
Contribute to improving the reconciliation of study, training and competition plans for young people who wish to be involved in sports within the framework of the organization of sport in higher education.
Promote an effective increase in the number of students participating in university sports.
Encourage student involvement in sporting activities.
| What are the benefits of the new statute?
Enshrines minimum rights, such as:
relief of duly justified absences;
changing exam dates in cases of duly proven need;
priority in choosing times;
the possibility of requesting exams in addition to those already legally established.

Prof. Doctor Pedro Miguel Forte
Pedro Forte has a degree in Sports, a Masters in Exercise and Health and a PhD in Sports Sciences. Throughout his professional activity he was an instructor of physical and sports activities and a basketball and football coach. He is a researcher at the Research Center for Sport, Health and Human Development and his areas of interest are biomechanics related to health and sports performance in individual and team sports. He is a member of the team of analysts for Paralympic athlete Mário Trindade (European champion and 4th in the world rankings in his category). At a scientific level, they have published chapters and books, articles and works presented at conferences and events and collaborate with several national and international researchers. He is an editor and reviewer in national and international journals from the most prestigious publishers such as Frontiers, MDPI, Elsevier, Springer Nature and Taylor and Francis. He is Coordinator and teacher at the Sports Department at ISCE Douro.
